Freemasonry in the Caribbean
The Caribbean presents the most structurally diverse Masonic landscape in the Americas. Jurisdictions range from sovereign independent grand lodges — such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago — to overseas districts of the United Grand Lodge of England administering Freemasonry across multiple islands, to Prince Hall grand lodges holding their own UGLE recognition. All 24 jurisdictions covered here are recognized by the United Grand Lodge of England.
Freemasonry arrived in the Caribbean with British, French, and Spanish colonial presence from the eighteenth century onward. The region's linguistic diversity — English, Spanish, French, and Dutch — reflects that colonial history and shapes the institutional structure of Masonry across the islands today.
