Freemasonry in Central America

Central American Freemasonry developed primarily under Spanish colonial influence, with lodges established from the early nineteenth century onward as the region's nations gained independence. Mexico and Panama both have substantial Masonic histories tied to their national founding eras. The grand lodges of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Panama are all recognized by the United Grand Lodge of England.

Nicaragua is the single exception in the region. The Grand Lodge of Nicaragua is not currently recognized by the United Grand Lodge of England. Its page is included here for completeness and geographic context, with that status clearly noted.

No Prince Hall grand lodges operate in Central America. The Prince Hall Affiliated tradition developed in the United States and does not extend to Central American jurisdictions.
